Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The International Academy for Leadership (IAF) replication workshop on "Liberal Positions on Terrorism", on 7th August 2010, at Lanson Place Ambassador Row, Kuala Lumpur, was organized by FAN Malaysia, an alumni network of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. The facilitator, Dr. Joyce Lee shared her liberalism knowledge gained in Germany in May 2010 with the participants. The co-facilitator, Ng Yeen Seen, is also the chairlady of FAN Malaysia.

Birstonas, Lithuania

During the IAF-Seminar on New Public Management (NPM) in Gummersbach, taking place in autumn 2009, the three Lithuanian participants showed vital interest to organize such a seminar for local politicians in Lithuania.

Gummersbach and Düsseldorf

This year the seminar was attended by 26 participants from a total of 22 countries. 14 of them represented liberal parties or the youth wings thereof. Most of the others were researchers or executive board members of NGOs and think tanks.

Munich, Dresden and Berlin

From July 3rd to 10th the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty invited a delegation of eight North Korean senior officials of the Worker’s Party, the country’s administration and further institutions to travel to Munich, Dresden and Berlin to explore German engineering, environmental city development and lifestyle.

Brazil

October 3, 2010 is going to be a big election day in Brazil. They will not just elect the future president and the governors of 27 states, but also the composition of the House of Representatives, the Senate and the state parliaments. The only 34 year old acting city councillor of Vitoria, capital of Espírito Santo, is a former graduate of classroom and on-line seminars of the IAF and also participated in the information trip "Strengthening of Political Liberalism in Brazil and Germany".

How can you facilitate attractive and participatory events on Liberalism? 20 experienced seminar facilitators joined an IAF workshop to learn about new creative seminar methods and exchange ideas and experiences. Workshop facilitators Stefan Melnik and Bettina Hegmann did their best to provide an inspiring platform for exchange and debate as well as present new creative methods used in adult education.

Indonesian Congressmen and Experts visiting Berlin and Munich

Starting from day 1 in Berlin until their last day in Munich, the seven members of the delegation were deeply satisfied with the activity's great organization and scheduling. They showed themselves enthusiastic as well with their interlocutors, who gathered politicians and government representatives at the federal, regional, and municipal levels, experts in medium-sized enterprise policy, and entrepreneurs, among other.

Weimar

On 23rd of June the Weimar city council announced that Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi had been selected for the 2010 Human Rights Prize of the city.

Berlin

Together with liberal political parties NGOs pushing a liberal agenda are the main partners of the Foundation in this part of the world. In cooperation with the Foundation these groups are striving for more freedom of expression, the rule of law and the freedom of assembly and association - to name but the most important political rights.

São Paulo

Because of the enormous interest in the presentation of the IAF seminar on "New Public Management", three former IAF participants with the approval of the project director, Mr. Rainer Erkens, prepared their impressions as a text, added some examples from the Brazilian public administration and published it with the help of FNF in Brazil to make it available to a wider audience.

Mixed soccer team plays in Cologne and Leverkusen

For decades the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been high on the international agenda. But there is one thing that Israeli and Palestinian boys share with millions of people around the world: a passion for football. – This is the basis of an unusual dialogue project run by the Peres Center for Peace, Tel Aviv, and the Al Quds Foundation for Democracy and Dialogue, Ramallah: They organize joint football activities for Israeli and Palestinian youngsters from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Berlin, Düsseldorf and Cologne

A delegation of leaders of member parties and observers of the Network of Arab Liberals (NAL) has visited Germany for a study tour titled "The Organization of Modern Political Parties". Sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) the main objective of the one-week program has been to introduce to the Arab party leaders the internal organizational structures and procedures of a modern European liberal Party.

Sam Rainsy, leader of the biggest Cambodian opposition party, met at the Theodor Heuss Academy with German local politicians to discuss elements of local government and lean management. During his stay he talked to Moritz Kleine-Brockhoff, FNF Project Director for Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar about the current situation in his country.

After a week of intense and eventful seminar work, 20 participants from around the world who assisted a seminar of the International Academy for Leadership (IAF) were supposed to fly back to their home countries. Due to the eruption of the Iceland volcano, however, that turned out to be impossible. Only those among the participants, who wanted to stay in Europe anyway were able to leave.

Although we have witnessed a huge revival of religion and religiosity in recent years, liberals throughout the world have failed to recognize or acknowledge this reality. This is strange, given the history of liberalism and the fact that liberals throughout the world have sought, often successfully, to separate state and religion and hence to ensure that citizens are treated equally irrespective of their beliefs.

For liberals, freedom represents the utmost asset! Education is a crucial requirement for freedom. Therefore and after a break that took several years, the international seminar entitled "No Education: No Freedom, No Opportunity" was held once more at the IAF of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. Twenty-four participants from 22 countries provided their insights on the way the education system may be upgraded worldwide, in order to face the demands entailed with the 21st century.
